Destination Event: Steamtown National Historic Site
Steamtown National Historic Site
If you like trains and railroading, this will be a Cougar event you won't want to miss: On Saturday, Oct. 1, the Delmarva Cougar Club, Mercury Cougar Club of New England, and Cougar Club of New Jersey/Pennsylvania will meet at Steamtown National Historic Site, in Scranton, Pa.
The three clubs scheduled this family-friendly destination event to break up the year-long wait to see friends between Carlisle Ford Nationals shows. Scranton, about a four-hour drive from Washington, D.C., is centrally located and easily accessible for members of the three clubs.
The main event—the visit to Steamtown—will be Saturday, Oct. 1, at 9 a.m. (you can join us later in the morning if you need more travel time). Enjoy the day at Steamtown viewing the exhibits and taking a ride on a vintage locomotive. The clubs will meet for dinner Saturday evening and then hang out with their Cougars in the parking lot of the Hampton Inn on Montage Mountain, the event hotel. Departure is Sunday—after breakfast, of course.

A block of rooms has been set aside for us at the Hampton Inn, which is on Interstate 81, about 15 minutes from Steamtown. To get the room block rate of $109 a night, make your reservation online here or call 570-342-7002 and mention Cougar Club.
Steamtown has an admission fee of $7 for adults; kids 15 and younger are free. The half-hour excursion is $5 for all riders 6 and older and is in addition to the park entrance fee.
The only requirement (which is not enforced, but encouraged) is you must drive a Cougar to get there. But if your Cougar wants to stay home, join us anyway—just wear your favorite Cougar T-shirt!
